I just got done reading a very interesting web article that ask the very question on how much is a single facebook fan worth? With Facebook growing every day it is reported that their are now more than 750 million users. Now ask yourself does your marketing and advertising even come close to the possibility to reaching that many people? Now I am not saying that you reach that many customers but just to have the possibility to have that much brand recognition.

To do a quick overview here are a few facts they came up with after a survey was performed by Syncapse.

An average fan is apparently worth about $136.38.

On average, fans spend an extra $71.84 they would not otherwise spend on products they describe themselves as fans of, compared to those who are not fans.

Fans are 28 percent more likely than non-fans to continue using a specific brand.

Fans are 41 percent more likely than non-fans to recommend a product they are a fan of to their friends.

Here are a few stats from facebook themselves.

More than 750 million active users

50% of our active users log on to Facebook in any given day

Average user has 130 friends

People spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook

Now lets play a very fun senario. One of our customers is A Good Time Photo Booth who has created 2 contest. The first contest they gained 2,000+ new fans and the second contest gained over 3,100 new fans. Now lets just use their math from the article and say each fan was worth $136.38 multiply it by 5,100 new fans. That means that over the 2 contest they ran were worth $695,000. Now I think that is a little bit of a stretch but just imagine they are worth $1 per new fan or even $.50 per fan. There isn’t anywhere else where you can get exposure like that with a direct mail.

Now here is the best part after someone becomes a fan of yours any time you make a post to your wall or upload new pictures it broadcast to their news feed. Now you might not get in all 5,100 fans news feeds but you will get in about 3,000-4,000. Does your TV ad give you that type of advertising?

So social media is always going to be around for some time to come. But don’t wait start growing your fan page today.
